Style File #3: Better With Cashmere

Crazy, isn’t it? 80 plus degrees out doors, yet we’re all champing at the bit to knit sweaters. At least I am. As much as I love summer and hate to see it go, I do love styling fall clothes…there’s so much more to work with!

For this first foray into fall, I thought I’d start seriously looking at “Heavenly” by Ankestrick. I was immediately taken with this delicately detailed and draped pullover. It fits my sweater goals to a tee; it is long enough to cover that troublesome area right above the belt and is not too snug through the middle, yet doesn’t look mumu-ish either. The precious eyelet edging and the right-in-my-wheelhouse color way had me sold. I knew I’d have a timeless, cornerstone wardrobe piece to wear and love for years to come. Then, for a quick call to Trish at KnitTraders for some yarn advice…

She suggested Cashmere 30 from the Concept line, launched just this year by Katia. Concept embodies the ideals of “minimalism and purity, and a return to simplicity of form” for the company. I think it is a perfect, deconstructed yarn for this “heavenly” sweater. The warm yet light blend of merino and cashmere means I’ll have a soft, snugly sweater that I can wear next to my skin all through fall and winter. And the colors are divine! My first choice is 211 “Denim”, although 203 “Light Gray” would work well also.

Worked in a DK weight, I can see finishing Heavenly before it has turned too cold to wear it without a coat, and since we are working with cashmere, it will be warm enough to wear throughout the winter. For now, heading into that time of year when you never know what Mother Nature will do, it’s best to have some options.

My lifestyle is pretty casual. We won’t be doing anything too fancy until we’re a little closer to Christmas, so I’m thinking about the farmer’s markets I like to visit in the fall. Over the next month or so, I could pair Heavenly with Bermuda length cut offs, a pretty, silky scarf and, the short girls best friend “flatflorms”. Add a whimsical messenger bag, a jaunty wool beret and an emergency under-layer, and I can shop warmly until sunset. Perhaps a little glass of bubbly by the bay on the way home?

Where I live, everyone looks like they ought to be climbing something, but suppose I need to go to the city for lunch with my friends? Heavenly would be smashing with some slender tuxedo pants in black, a nice chunky oxford or mary jane shoe and a perfectly shaped Burberry tote. Take along a warm, wooly pea jacket and stay out for dinner!

With Thanksgiving and the holidays coming up, I figure I can get some extra snugly mileage out of my new sweater by teaming her with distressed denims, strappy sittin’- shoes and silver accessories. An airy silk shawl with a pretty pattern etched in would complete a lovely, pulled-together evening look. I think I’d better start….today!
